The city of Dausa is situated in the North-Eastern region of Rajasthan, a region widely known as Dhundhar, ruled by Gurjars. Dausa was an important political place for Dhundhar region. The Gurjar ruler Manthan Dev ruled this region during the 9th century AD is evident from Rajor inscription. Dausa is also known as "Dev Nagari." as Dausa city is surrounded by Mahadev in five directions-Nilkanth, Gupteshwer, Sahajnath, Somnath and Baijnath. It was named from Sanskrit word "Dhau and Sa". 'Dhau' means ‘swargsa’ or Like Heaven and 'sa' means ‘sundar’ or ‘beautiful’. Therefore the name means ‘swarg sa sundar’or ‘beautiful like heaven’. Chauhan and Badgujars ruled the land in the 10th century AD. Dausa was the first capital of the Dhunder region. Late Shri Tikaram Paliwal and Late Shri Ram Karan Joshi from Dausa contributed immensely to make India free from Britain.

Sunderdas was a noted saint, poet, philosopher and social reformer of medieval India. He was born in the year 1596 in Dausa Rajasthan. He is also known as Sant Kavi Sunderdas and is reserved as Shankracharya of ‘Hindi Literature’. He was a discipline of Dadu Dayal. In 1997, Indian Postal Department issued a postal stamp featuring his image.

The district extends to a geographical area of 3,432 sq km. and on basis of this size ranks 32nd in the State and 357th in India. According to year 2008-09, 351.93 sq km. area was demarcated as a waste land, which cannot be used for any kind of agricultural or industrial activity. It lies at 26°88'N latitude, 76°33'E longitude and 326 m altitude. In the year 2021, there was a total 3.40% forest area of total geographical area. Sawa and Ban Ganga Rivers pass though the district. It is surrounded by Alwar district on the North, Bharatpur district on the Northeast, Karauli district on the Southeast, Sawai Madhopur district on the South and Jaipur district on the West. The district is situated on the National highway number 11 from Jaipur to Agra. The prominent rivers that flow through the district are Banganga and Morel. The climate of the district is extremely hot in the summers and fairly cold in the winters. The actual rainfall in the district was 842.8 mm in the year of 2021-22.

Administrative wise, Dausa came into existence in the year 1996 with the allotted district code of 109. Its administrative headquarter is located at Dausa which is situated at a distance of 61 km. from the State Capital. The district is divided into 5 sub-districts namely Baswa, Dausa, Lalsot Mahwa and Sikrai. It has 5 towns and 1,109 villages. Hindi is the administrative language of the district.

According to 2011 census, the district has total number of 2,90,829 households with a total population of 16,34,409 out of which 8,57,787 are males and 7,76,622 are females causing it to rank 20th in the state and 306 in India. The population growth rate during the period 2001 to 2011 was 24.09% including 23.70% are males and 24.53% are females. The density of population of the district is 476 persons per sq km. The sex ratio is 905 (females per 1000 males) while the child ratio stands at 865 (females per 1000 males). As per 2011 census the percentages of major religion practiced by the people of this region is Hindu with 96.81% of the total population. According to 2011 census the principal language in the district is Hindi with 99.88%. In the year 2020 the number of live births in the district was 33,618 out of which 17,507 were males and 16,108 were females. In the same year the number of deaths in the district was 8,347 out of which 5,069 were males and 3,278 were females.

Economic wise, agriculture is the back bone of the district. In the year 2020-21 the gross domestic product in the district was Rs. 17,30,639 lakhs at current price and Rs. 10,83,664 lakhs at constant prices in the year 2011-2012. The net domestic product in the district during the period 2020-21 was Rs. 15,94,632 lakh at current price and Rs. 9,84,667 lakh at constant prices in the year 2011-2012. The Per Capita Income or NDDP, At Factor Cost during the period 2020-21 was Rs. 84,808 at current price and Rs. 52,368 at constant prices in the year 2011-2012. In the year 1992, District Industry Center was established which caused industrial development in the district. There are 3497 small and micro industries are registered upto 31st March, 2015. Different strategies are adopted by the Government to develop handicrafts and local artisans. The main units in industries in the district are dolomite Powder, Quartz Poder, Plastic Pipes, electronic transformer, marble cutting, stone cutting, furniture, Atta Dal mills, white coal and mineral grinding etc.

According to 2011 census, education wise, the literacy rate in the district is 68.16% including 82.98% are males and 51.93% are females. The total literate population of the district is 9,38,051 persons with 5,96,935 are males and 3,41,116 are females. There are a number of educational institutes in the district namely Shree Digambar Institute of Technology, Rajasthan Engineering College, S.J. College of Engineering and Technology, Sanjeevan College of Teaching Education, Apex Institue of Diploma in Engineering (Mahwa), Government Girls College.

Mr. Hari Singh Mahua, is a member of Indian National Congress and Vice President of Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee. He represented Mahwa legislative constituency in the Rajasthan legislative assembly from 1998 to 2002. He also served as Minister in the Government of Rajasthan. Kaskaur Meena is another well known personality of Indian politics who born in Dausa in 1947. She belongs to BJP Party. She was former Union Minister of State in Government of India. Currently, she is in-charge of schedule tribe’s morcha of the party at the National level.

The district has numerous attractive historical and religious places such as "Chand Baori, Bhadrawati Palace, Mehandipur Balaji Temple, Harshat Mata Temple, Chawand, Khawaraoji, Fort Madhogarh, Jhajhirampura, Bara Baoli, Bhandarej Baodi, Church at Bandikui, and Randiyonka Mahal." In a large number, tourist from the worldwide visit there every year.
